We are counting numbers of visitors to get a clearer picture of how many of those coming to the swimming pool use the diving pool, the deep, multi-purpose-pool. Counters will be used at the pool for six months in the pilot phase.

The visitor number counters were installed at Leppävaara swimming pool on 9 January 2025. The Sports and Exercise unit will use the information, for example, when carrying out surveys on how the swimming pool is used and making recommendations when new swimming pools are being planned. It is important to collect measured data on how and how often the deep, multi-purpose pool is used, so that the facilities and services can be planned to meet the actual needs of the local community.

The sensors on the visitor number counters at the pool will also measure data on how the pool is used. So data will be collected on how much of the pool is used, for example, for jumping from the diving platform, aquajogging and diving.

The technology used to take the measurements guarantees complete privacy. The personal details of users of the swimming pool will not be processed or stored.

The visitor number counters are cameras that only store numerical data for statistical purposes, recording, for example, the numbers and times of the visits. The sensors are Finnish National Security Authority-certified, and the technology has been developed by Supersight Oy.

An artificial intelligence model is employed. It is the most accurate in its field. It was developed using Europe’s fastest supercomputer LUMI in collaboration with the world’s leading research institutes: HEC Paris, the University of Helsinki, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, CSC, the Universities of Oulu and Lapland.
