A regional residents’ event brought together residents and planners to discuss the development of the Tapiola area.
A large group of city residents interested in planning came to the residents’ event on 22 October 2024 to discuss the development of the Tapiola major district in the lobby of Otaniemen lukio upper secondary school. Local planning events are in great demand, and there is a desire to continue organising them in the future.
The event for discussing the regional plan of the Tapiola region was held in the lobby of Otaniemen lukio upper secondary school, with plenty of attendees throughout the evening. As usual, the attendees had the opportunity to visit different stations dedicated to specific plans and speak with the planners about city planning and topical plans.
“City residents were particularly interested in plan timetables. The progress of many plans was eagerly anticipated. The evening saw a fruitful and constructive discussion on the development of Tapiola,” says architect Aino Kuusimäki.
In addition to plan timetables, the quality of the urban environment was discussed, with many residents expressing their preference for local nature and, for example, the preservation of urban trees. City residents want nature to be taken into account in planning.
During the evening, the residents had the opportunity to hold discussions at stations dedicated to specific plans, including Heikintori, Haukilahti centre, Niittysillankäytävä and the Niittykumpu Fire Station. Master planning experts were also present to discuss things with the residents.
At the beginning of the event, Sampo Sikiö, the area architect of the Tapiola major district, presented the planning situation and development prospects of the area. Espoo elected officials from, for example, the City Planning Committee were also present.
The atmosphere of the event was positive and interested. The space worked well for the event, and the stations were lively. Many residents thanked the staff of the City Planning Department for organising regional residents’ events.
“Events where residents and planners can interact are important and beneficial for both parties. We will of course continue to organise such events in the future,” says architect Pieta Kupiainen.
What else is going on in Espoo’s urban planning at the moment?
