Food business operator – remember to submit a notification if your operations ended in 2024

27.11.2024 11.38

Each food business operator is responsible for notifying the food control authority of the termination of operations without delay. Also in the case of a change of operator, the previous operator must notify the food control authority of the termination of their operations. The change of business ID is also considered a change of operator.

The basic charge for food control (EUR 150) is collected from all objects of food control that are active in the VATI information system on 1 January 2025 and subject to the charge under food legislation. In order to avoid an undue charge for 2025, an operator whose operations ended in 2024 must notify the food control authority by 31 December 2024.

The basic charge was introduced in 2022. It is a tax-like charge collected from food business operators subject to municipal food control. The basic charge covers such food control tasks for which a separate fee is not charged. These include guidance and advisory services.

The basic charge applies to all approved food premises and approved primary production sites for sprouts. In addition, the charge applies to almost all food business and contact material business operations for which a notification must be submitted for registration purposes.

The operator can request administrative review if the charge was unduly collected or if no basic charge was imposed for reasons beyond the operator’s control.

You can submit a notification of suspension or termination of operations to Espoo Region Environmental Health Services through the Ilppa online service or by filling in a form.
