Decisions of the Cultural Committee on 22 October 2024
The Cultural Committee approved the new grant principles that will enter into force at the beginning of next year and the needs assessment of the Taiteiden talo arts house planned for the Espoonlahti area.
Needs assessment for Taiteiden talo
The Committee approved the needs assessment for the new building for the Taiteiden talo arts house. The goal is to make Taiteiden talo a space for learning art and a meeting place for hobbies for Espoonlahti residents of all ages. The needs assessment and the preliminary blueprint will be used as a basis for planning the construction project. The Committee wishes that the operational needs presented in the needs assessment are emphasised in the planning and implementation of the project.
Principles of grants awarded by the Cultural Committee from 1 January 2025
The Board decided on new grant principles, which will enter into force at the beginning of next year. The grant principles have been prepared in cooperation with key stakeholders through workshops, surveys and consultations. New items have been added to grant criteria, e.g. the responsibility of the activities in the scope of the grant, and the assessment criteria now include an accessibility plan and consideration of ecological, social and economic sustainability. In the future, an artist grant can be applied for a three-month or one-year work period, and short one-month and two-month periods will no longer be awarded grants.
The Committee considers it important that the principles of grants are fully reviewed once the legislation on basic education in the arts and the reforms of the state funding system have been completed. In addition to the immediate amendments required by legislation, the grant principles should be evaluated and, if necessary, updated in accordance with the spirit of the Act and the needs of Espoo.
