Monday 13 January 2025 at Finnish Heritage Agency, Ratapihantie 9, Pasila. The event will be held in Finnish.

Organizers Finnish Heritage Agency, KAMU Espoo City Museum, Museum of Finnish Architecture & Design Museum, Helsinki City Museum and Vantaa City Museum.

Join the experts in a seminar where we will jointly create future research policy guidelines for museums. Come to listen, discuss and influence!

Research in museums is on the agenda. Research as a resource was the theme of the "Museum of Impact" seminar in February 2024 and at Museum Days in May 2024.

The role of museums in research is changing. Funding has driven museums to produce and refine material to make it accessible, but there is less and less time for research due to lack of resources. Much of the time is spent organising, documenting and digitising collections. However, research is needed to create exhibitions, for example. This seminar for museum professionals will explore the future of museums as research producers, commissioners and partners, and as presenters and disseminators of research.

This seminar for museum professionals will set out to compile a research policy checklist for museums. How will museums act as producers and providers of material in the future? What kind of research producer, research commissioner or research partner can a museum be? And how will museums present and communicate research?

Leena Paaskoski, Professor of Practice, Museology, University of Jyväskylä
