The City of Espoo participates in the Helsinki Pride parade for equality

Our staff took part in the parade, showing their support for equality. Espoo's values – openness, fairness, equality, non-discrimination, humanity and tolerance – were strongly reflected in the event. The rainy weather that hit last year's Pride parade gave way to sunshine and a great atmosphere.

We asked our employees who took part in the parade why they think it is important for Espoo to participate. The responses highlighted Espoo's diversity: the city is home to more than 150 nationalities. It is important to support diversity and inclusiveness to make Espoo a good place to live, study and work for everyone. They also pointed out that peace and freedom are core values of the city, and that no one is truly free until everyone is free.

The City of Espoo's cooperation with the Helsinki Pride community is an integral part of our activities for equality and non-discrimination. During this year's partnership, we have developed safer space principles and studied the experience of safe space, created guidance for Business Espoo network companies on rainbow vocabulary, inclusive communication and event production, and organised several inspiring events for the Pride community around Espoo.
