Espoo reforms its building regulations
The City of Espoo has started to reform its building regulations, which were adopted in 2012. The reform is based on the new Building Act, which will enter into force on 1 January 2025. Since municipal building regulations must comply with the Building Act, the regulations must be reformed in accordance with the new legislation.
Espoo’s Building Control Department is in charge of reforming the building regulations. During the reform process, the Building Control Department will consult a wide range of officials and experts.
As the building regulations affect many residents, communities, companies and authorities, it is important that the preparation process is interactive and inclusive. The Building Control Department will draw up a participation and assessment scheme, which describes, among other things, how interested parties can have their say in the building regulations reform.
The timetable for the building regulations reform will be confirmed in autumn 2024. The building regulations must comply with the new Building Act by 1 January 2027.
