Vandalism at Espoo’s swimming pools

The Premises Department’s maintenance staff have noticed that a large number of thefts and minor acts of vandalism have occurred in the city’s swimming pool buildings.
At the Espoonlahti swimming pool, dozens of shower hoses and shower heads have been replaced during the past winter and spring. The exterior of the building has also been defaced with graffiti. Almost weekly acts of vandalism have also been reported in the toilet and shower facilities of the swimming pools in Leppävaara and Matinkylä.
“Minor acts of vandalism and thefts are a nuisance at our swimming pools and an inconvenience for other swimmers. They also result in additional repair costs. We encourage all visitors to keep their eyes open and tell our staff if they witness any form of vandalism,” says Maija Lehtinen, Managing Director of the Premises Department.
The Premises Department is responsible for technical property maintenance at the Matinkylä, Leppävaara and Espoonlahti swimming pools. The Premises Department is also responsible for maintenance work in the outdoor areas around the Matinkylä swimming pool. The City of Espoo’s Sports and Exercise Unit is responsible for water treatment and the provision of exercise services at swimming pools.
