Information about the European elections in Espoo in 2024

The advance voting period in the European elections is 29 May–4 June 2024 in Finland and 29 May–1 June 2024 abroad. The official election day is Sunday 9 June 2024.

Persons entitled to vote have received a notice of right to vote. Those entitled to vote in Finland include Finnish citizens and citizens of other EU Member States who reside in Finland and have registered to vote here who reach the age of 18 on 9 June 2024 at the latest.

Those entitled to vote may only vote in one EU Member State, either in their country of origin or in their country of residence. In the upcoming elections, around 4.5 million persons are entitled to vote in Finland.

Those entitled to vote have received from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency a notice of right to vote either by post or electronically through the Suomi.fi service. Your election day polling station is indicated in the notice. You do not need to bring the notice with you to the polling station, but you must bring an identity card granted by the police, a passport, a driver’s license or a similar photo ID.

You can vote in advance at any advance polling station

You can vote in advance at any advance polling station in Finland. On the actual election day, 9 June 2024, you can only vote at the polling station indicated in the notice of right to vote.

Voting at home

Voting at home is possible in Finland for people whose ability to move or function is restricted to the extent that they are unable to visit an advance polling station or a polling station on election day without unreasonable difficulty.

You must notify Espoo’s Central Election Committee of your desire to vote at home in writing or by telephone no later than Tuesday 28 May 2024 by 16:00.

Register for at-home voting by calling +358 9 81673928 or by sending an email to vaalit@espoo.fi. A voter can also choose someone else to take care of the registration on their behalf.

If an informal carer living in the same household will be voting at home at the same time, this must be mentioned in the notification. You can order a notification form from the Central Election Committee.

Voting in institutions

Special advance polling stations in Finland include hospitals, nursing homes and prisons. These polling stations are intended only for people who are staying at these institutions. Voting in advance is also possible in the garrisons of the Defence Forces’ units providing military training and in the units of the Border Guard providing military training.
