Espoo’s May Day celebrations include tango, magic and festive workshops

On Saturday 27 April, the Children’s Cultural Centre Aurora organises a workshop where you can make your own ‘vappuhuiska’, a Finnish May Day accessory consisting of a stick with a colourful pompom at the end. Join the non-stop workshop for some cheerful May Day crafting.

Come and celebrate the May Day kick-off event on Tuesday 30 April with music by Retuperän WBK and children’s band Orffit. In addition to music, you can visit the activity bus Välkky and enjoy many other fun activities, such as a bouncy castle and a fun fruit game provided by scouts. Mayor Jukka Mäkelä will also give a speech at the event.

The Vappunen! Festival at the Children’s Cultural Centre Aurora on Tuesday 30 April offers a fun evening for the whole family. Children’s music group Henna ja Supersankarit cheers everyone up with their performances, inspiring people of all ages to sing, play and laugh. Megasakki is an Emma Award-winning children’s music group that makes everyone want to dance. Its playful and entertaining concerts are always full of magic and sparkle. You can also let your creativity run wild at the festival workshops that offer imaginary arts and crafts activities organised by the Espoo School of Art, TaidePiilo and Runoropinoita.

Welcome to the Tapiola Sinfonietta’s May Day concert at Espoo Cultural Centre on Tuesday 30 April. The theme of the concert is “It’s All About the Tango”.
“Who would have thought that the Finns would grab most of the glory?” wrote The Times about the Tango Prom concert held in London in 2018. The super-combo that dazzled English audiences is now here in Espoo performing with the Tapiola Sinfonietta.
