Water can be used as usual – no need to boil it first
A water pipe broke in Espoo on Monday 19 February 2024 at around 15:00. The leakage has been isolated, and repairs have begun.
As a precautionary measure, the Espoo region health protection authority asked people in the affected area to boil their tap water. Information on the affected area and HSY’s latest press release are available at: https://www.hsy.fi/en/environmental-information/news/water-can-be-used-as-usual-in-eastern-espoo-kauniainen-and-linnainen-vantaa/(external link, opens in a new window).
Water samples were taken in the affected area on 19 February 2024. Based on the results, the microbiological quality of the water is good.
The recommendation to boil water is no longer in force, and water can be used as usual.
If the tap water is cloudy or has an odd colour or smell, you should let the water run until it is clear. Even if the tap water is immediately clear, you should still let the water run from each tap for 2 minutes before using it.
If you suspect that you have stomach symptoms due to drinking water, contact your health centre to assess the need for treatment.
