A new temporary wooden bridge was opened to the public on Itätuulenkuja in Tapiola on Wednesday 7 February.

At the same time, a new route was opened on the deck level, which pedestrians can use to get to the metro station, bus terminal, Ainoa shopping centre and Tapionaukio. The new pedestrian route runs on the southern side of Itätuulenkuja via a scaffolding bridge that connects the wooden bridges that cross Itätuulenkuja. Via the deck-level route, pedestrians can get to Helmakuja in the west and Tuulikinsilta and Tapionaukio in the east.

New temporary routes in Tapiola.

The construction of the Tuulikinsilta bridge will continue until summer, so the current route is temporary. We may have to close the route occasionally for short periods of time due to construction work. During closures, the pedestrian route runs though Ainoa.

Currently, two temporary wooden bridges cross Itätuulenkuja. One is at the western end next to Sammonsilta, and the newly opened bridge is next to Helmakuja. A scaffolding bridge runs along the southern side of Itätuulenkuja connecting these two bridges, the buildings on the southern side, and the routes towards Revontulentie.

The construction of a permanent concrete deck on Itätuulenkuja will start during the spring. The section from Tuulimäki alley to the west will be completed first in the summer of 2025. The contractor is YIT Infra Oy. At the various stages of this construction project, the routes will have to be changed from time to time. New signs will be put up accordingly.

The city closed the temporary bridges in the area due to the accident on 11 May. A decision was made to dismantle the temporary scaffolding bridges during the summer and replace them with new temporary routes.
