As none of the candidates received more than 50 per cent of the votes in the first round of the presidential election, a second round will be held between the two candidates who received the most votes. The candidates in the second round are Alexander Stubb and Pekka Haavisto.

The advance voting period in the second round is from 31 January to 6 February 2024 in Finland and from 31 January to 3 February 2024 abroad. The official election day is Sunday 11 February 2024.

You can vote in advance at any advance polling station. On the actual election day, 11 February, you can only vote at the polling station indicated in the notice of right to vote.

Voting at home

Voting at home is possible in Finland for people whose ability to move or function is restricted to the extent that they are unable to visit an advance polling station or a polling station on election day without unreasonable difficulty.

If a voter registers for at-home voting for the first round of the election, they do not need to register again for the second round. However, if a voter does not vote at home in the first round of the election and wishes to vote at home in the second round, they must register for at-home voting with the central election committee no later than Tuesday 30 January 2024 by 16:00.

Voting in institutions

Special advance polling stations in Finland include hospitals, nursing homes and prisons. These polling stations are intended only for people who are staying at these institutions. Voting in advance is also possible in the garrisons of the Defence Forces’ units providing military training and in the units of the Border Guard providing military training.
