The strike on Thursday will affects, among other things, transport in Helsinki region and City of Espoo’s street maintenance.

Impact on day care centres and schools

The political strike will affect pupils and students who travel to school by public transport. Replacement transport services will not be organised. School taxis and charter buses that take pupils to temporary school premises will run as usual. Schools will let guardians know if other charter buses do not run. Any taxi rides organised for children attending early childhood education will also run as usual.

The strike may affect the availability of food and ingredients. Because of this, there will probably be changes in the menus of day care centres and schools. The effects of the strike may last for the rest of the week. Special dietary needs will be taken into consideration during the strike.

The strike may also affect the cleaning and lobby services of day care centres and schools. In addition, there may not be staff available to plough snow or spread grit in yard areas.

Early childhood education, pre-primary education, clubs and residents’ parks

Early childhood education and pre-primary education will be provided as usual in spite of the political strike. Early childhood education clubs and residents’ parks will also operate as usual.

We ask guardians to inform early childhood education units of their children’s absences through eVaka.

Any taxi rides organised for children attending early childhood education will run as usual.

Any planned public transport trips will be cancelled during the strike.

Basic education will be provided in accordance with the normal schedules in spite of the strike.

If a pupil has to stay at home due to a lack of transport services, the guardian has to submit an absence notification through Wilma.

School taxis and charter buses that take pupils to temporary school premises will run as usual. Schools will let guardians know if other charter buses do not run.

General upper secondary education

Youth centres and Ohjaamotalo

Impact on street maintenance

In terms of weather, the street maintenance situation looks fairly calm. Heavy snowfalls or severe weather conditions are not expected.

However, the strike will have a significant impact on our winter maintenance resources, which means that we may only be able to maintain the main streets, especially at night and on the day of the strike, 14 December.

Impact on city-owned properties

The strike may affect the repair, cleaning, maintenance and lobby services of city-owned properties, such as schools and sports facilities.

In addition, there may not be staff available to plough snow or spread grit in the yard areas of these properties.

Impact on sports facilities

The strike may affect the opening hours of the sports facilities in Kannusillanmäen väestönsuoja in Espoon keskus or Tuulimäki sports facilities in Tapiola. Said sports facilities may be closed complitely.

There may be changes to the opening hours of other sports facilities too. We will inform you of the possible changes on the sports facilities' websites.
