Advance voting period in presidential election is 17–23 January 2024
The next presidential election takes place in January 2024. In Finland, the President is elected by direct popular vote. The presidential election may consist of two rounds. If one of the candidates receives more than half of the votes in the first round of the election on 28 January 2024, that person is elected President. If no candidate receives more than half of the votes in the first round, a second round will be held between the two candidates who received the most votes in the first round. The second round will take place on 11 February 2024. The candidate who receives the most votes in the second round is elected President.
The President’s term of office is six years, and the same person may be elected President for no more than two consecutive terms. Persons entitled to vote have received a notice of right to vote
Every Finnish citizen who has reached the age of 18 no later than on the day of the election, 28 January 2024, is entitled to vote in the presidential election.
Those entitled to vote have received from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency a notice of right to vote either by post or electronically through the Suomi.fi service. Your election day polling station is indicated in the notice. You do not need to bring the notice with you to the polling station, but you must bring an identity card granted by the police, a passport, a driver’s license or a similar photo ID.

You can vote in advance at any advance polling station
The advance voting period is from 17 to 23 January 2024 in Finland and from 17 to 20 January 2024 abroad. The official election day is Sunday 28 January 2024.
The advance voting period for the possible second round is from 31 January to 6 February 2024 in Finland and from 31 January to 3 February 2024 abroad. The election day for the second round is Sunday 11 February 2024.
You can vote in advance at any advance polling station. On the actual election days, 28 January and 11 February, you can only vote at the polling stations indicated in the notice of right to vote.

Voting at home
Voting at home is possible in Finland for people whose ability to move or function is restricted to the extent that they are unable to visit an advance polling station or a polling station on election day without unreasonable difficulty.
You must register for at-home voting with your municipality’s central election committee in writing or by telephone no later than Tuesday 16 January 2024 by 16:00. A voter can also choose someone else to take care of the registration on their behalf.
If a voter registers for at-home voting for the first round of the election, they do not need to register again for the second round. However, if a voter does not vote at home in the first round of the election and wishes to vote at home in the second round, they must register for at-home voting with the central election committee no later than Tuesday 30 January 2024 by 16:00.

Voting in institutions
Special advance polling stations in Finland include hospitals, nursing homes and prisons. These polling stations are intended only for people who are staying at these institutions. Voting in advance is also possible in the garrisons of the Defence Forces’ units providing military training and in the units of the Border Guard providing military training.
