Jokeri Light Rail Alliance receives RIL Award 2023

The Finnish Association of Civil Engineers (RIL) has given this year’s RIL Award to the construction of the Jokeri Light Rail track and street infrastructure and depot as an alliance project.
The winner was selected from among 17 high-quality entries. In addition to the Jokeri Light Rail, the three finalists included the Lyyra complex in Helsinki and the Myllypuro campus of the Helsinki Vocational College and Adult Institute. The winner was selected by Anders Adlercreutz, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering. He stated that the Jokeri Light Rail connects municipalities and creates a new high-quality urban space.
“The Jokeri Light Rail is not just one project, but it comprises many projects. When building a rail line in an existing environment, one faces entirely new challenges. This is also reflected in the project’s key figures. Crossing municipal boundaries and requiring numerous permits, the Jokeri Light Rail is a ground-breaking and exceptional infrastructure construction project in Finland.”
A successful large-scale project
The annual RIL Award is presented to a construction work, site or concept that best represents high-quality, innovative Finnish construction engineering and expertise.
This is the third award given to the Jokeri Light Rail project this autumn. In September, the project received the most prestigious infrastructure sector award, the Iso-Tömppä Award, from MANK ry. In October, the Association of Project Professionals Finland (Projektiammattilaiset ry) selected the Jokeri Light Rail as the project of the year.
