The one-day political strike announced by the Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL) will affect the City of Espoo’s catering services. We ask guardians to make sure that children and young people who follow a special diet have their own packed meals with them that can be stored at room temperature. Others can also bring packed meals with them if they want.

Day care centres and residents’ parks

The strike will not affect catering services in the following units:

Mankkaan päiväkoti, Kilon päiväkoti, Karamalmens daghem, Laakakiven päiväkoti, Vindängens daghem and Taavinkylän lastentalo’s pre-primary education groups Taavintupa and Oravanpesä.

Meals in other units during the strike:

If the strike affects the meals served at a day care centre or a group family day care centre, the children will get a cold breakfast, a cold packed lunch or warm porridge, depending on the staffing situation. At snack time, children will get, for example, a smoothie, bread with cold cuts and a drink.

Round-the-clock day care centres will serve a cold breakfast, a cold lunch or warm porridge, a snack depending on the staffing situation as well as dinner and an evening meal.

We ask guardians to make sure that children who follow a special diet have their own packed meals with them that can be stored at room temperature.

Residents’ parks will not be able to serve snacks, so we ask guardians to make sure that their children have their own snacks with them that can be stored at room temperature.

The strike may affect the menu for the rest of the week.

Pre-primary education on school premises, basic education, afternoon activities and general upper secondary education

The strike will not affect catering services in the following units:

Pre-primary education on school premises, basic education, afternoon activities organised at schools for children with intellectual disabilities and autism, and afternoon clubs in the following schools: Aarnivalkean koulu, Karamalmens skola, Laajalahden koulu (including Kilon koulu’s 3rd and 6th grades), Mankkaanpuron koulu, Smedsby skola, Taavinkylän koulu, Vindängens skola, Kilonpuiston koulu, Mankkaan koulu, Pohjois-Tapiolan koulu, Tiistilän koulu (grades 7–9) and Rinnekodin koulu.

General upper secondary schools: Otaniemen lukio, Kuninkaantien lukio, Leppävaaran lukio and Espoon yhteislyseon lukio.

Meals in other units during the strike:

If the strike affects the meals served in connection with pre-primary education on school premises, basic education, general upper secondary education, afternoon activities organised at schools for children with intellectual disabilities and autism, or afternoon clubs, the aim is to serve packed meals (e.g. bread and cold cuts, fruit and drinks).

We ask guardians to make sure that children and young people who follow a special diet have their own packed meals with them that can be stored at room temperature.

Other pupils and students can also bring packed meals with them if they want. Schools will not sell snacks during the strike.

The strike may affect the menu for the rest of the week.
