The development principles for Viherlaakso have been completed. The principles, referred as Viherlaakso 2040, were prepared in cooperation with residents and companies. The principles show a way for the city district’s future. The aim is to use the principles to create an attractive and diverse living environment consisting of distinctive areas
The development principles take into account the opinions of residents, companies, owners of commercial plots and other stakeholders so that the city district will meet all the involved parties’ future needs. This means that in the future, Viherlaakso will have single-family houses, comfortable blocks of flats and enough workplace plots and space for new companies. Conservation of local nature and recreational areas is important to Viherlaakso residents.
City planning specifies development principles
The development principles for Viherlaakso are a general plan for the future development of the area, and they will be specified in city planning in cooperation with the residents and other stakeholders. This means that the city plan will specify what the principles outline. In the coming years, these development objectives can be specified and adapted to the changing needs of residents, companies and other actors, if necessary.
The aim is to create an attractive and dense urban centre in Viherlaakso that offers local services, housing and jobs. The idea is to increase the communality in the city district, and the marketplace area is one of the significant ways of raising local spirit. Pedestrians and cyclists are emphasised in the transport and movement in the urban centre.
The development aims to increase the vitality of the area and offer a wide range of housing options for residents of all ages and in different life situations. The structure of the Turuntie area as a workplace area will be strengthened so that it is seen as part of the urban centre of Viherlaakso.
Viherlaakso to stay verdant
Viherlaakso is known for its lushness and natural housing, and these are elements that the plans for the city district’s future want to preserve.
A sustainable lifestyle is also an essential part of the development principles for Vihreälaakso. Energy efficiency and climate change mitigation are important priorities.
