Keilaniemi tunnel on Ring I is closed on the night of 11–12 October due to a rescue exercise

The Keilaniemi tunnel on Ring I will be closed on the night of 11–12 October (Wednesday–Thursday) from 22:00 to 4:00. The tunnel will be closed in both directions due to a rescue exercise.

During the exercise, traffic on Ring I will be diverted through Ring II, which is especially recommended for heavy vehicles. We recommend that those driving between Road 1 (i.e. Turunväylä) and Länsiväylä take the route through Kalevalantie, Pohjantie and Etelätuulentie. Eastbound vehicles can avoid the tunnel by driving through Keilaniemi.

The exercise will involve smoke, which may come out of the tunnel. This is not a cause for concern. A fire inspection will also be carried out in the tunnel in connection with the exercise.

Various authorities and their stakeholders will practise rescue activities and mutual cooperation to prepare for a possible tunnel accident. The organisations involved in the exercise are the Rescue Department, the police, emergency medical services, the Emergency Response Centre, the Traffic Management Centre, the ELY Centre, the Espoo road maintenance contract team, and the City of Espoo.
