We will join thousands of other organisations and take part in the international SDG Flag Day. In Espoo, we will raise our SDG flags in all five urban centres.

25 September 2023 marks eight years since the 193 member states of the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Agenda 2030. These 17 goals will guide global work for sustainable development between 2016 and 2030.

The UN’s Agenda 2030 period is already halfway through and, unfortunately, the goals will not be achieved globally at the current rate. Finland is one of the best performing countries, especially in terms of social sustainability goals. However, there is still room for improvement in relation to environmental and climate-related goals.

The City of Espoo is committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals as a forerunner by 2025. We promote the goals in all city activities.

On the Sustainable Development Goals page (in Finnish), you can see how Espoo is doing and compare the situation in Espoo with that in Helsinki, Oulu, Tampere, Turku and Vantaa.

You can also subscribe to the city’s sustainable development newsletter (In Finnish). In the newsletter, we share information on how companies, research institutes, universities, associations and other organisations are working together with the city for a more sustainable future.
