You can receive child home care allowance if your youngest child is under 3 years of age and does not attend early childhood education and you no longer receive parental allowance for the child. You can apply for child home care allowance from Kela.

What does child home care allowance consist of?

Child home care allowance paid for the youngest child in the family includes the following:

  • care allowance
  • Espoo supplement (i.e. municipal supplement)
  • possible care supplement, which is based on the family’s total income.

You can also receive the care allowance included in child home care allowance for other siblings under school age who do not attend early childhood education.

What is the Espoo supplement and who is entitled to it?

The Espoo supplement is a municipal supplement to the child home care allowance intended for families who live in Espoo.

The Espoo supplement, EUR 160 per month, is paid for the youngest child in the family aged under 18 months. Nowadays, families are entitled to the Espoo supplement even if their other children attend early childhood education.

You do not have to apply for the Espoo supplement separately if you have applied for child home care allowance from Kela. Kela will automatically issue a decision on the Espoo supplement if you are entitled to it. Kela pays the child home care allowance including any supplements to the family.
