The autumn’s greatest gigs and most entertaining theatre performances at Kannusali – see you underground!
The versatile underground venue Kannusali offers cultural experiences from great music gigs to entertaining theatre performances. There is also high-quality programme for young people, children and seniors.
During the autumn, new music by Finnish artists will be heard at Kannusali: Emma Salokoski and Jarmo Saari will be playing songs from their first collaboration album, and Jaakko Laitinen ja Väärä Raha will get you dancing with their Balkan rhythms. Excellent songwriters Viitasen Piia and Jarkko Martikainen will come and win over the audience with their storytelling. Award-winning blues singer Ina Forsman will delight with her lush soul sounds. Legendary veteran rocker Pelle Miljoona will be performing with his band at the beginning of September. Other long-time professional musicians to be playing at Kannusali in the autumn are Mato Valtonen & Jore Marjaranta Band and Ben Granfelt, who will be celebrating his 60th birthday.
The autumn’s absolute highlights at Kannusali will include Plutonium 74’s anniversary concert “From Pasila to Kallio in 20 years” and the performance by the magnificent singer/rapper/songwriter Mariska. The abundant gig list also includes treats for lovers of heavier music as well as the indie faithful. Metal music will be offered by Leverage, Lähiöbotox + Stoned Statues and Bloodred Hourglass + Luna Kills, who will also be sharing the bill Fresh alternative music will be played by Teksti-TV 666 + Bad Sauna and Sepikka + Maa Ilmasta.
A mystical and intense atmosphere will be created by Gasthaus Orkesteri, performing tunes heard in the Twin Peaks TV series and David Lynch films. More film music, especially schlager songs heard in Finnish films from the 1950s and 1960s, will be played by Ykspihlajan Kino-Orkesteri, featuring Anna Airola from the Aikuiset (Adults) TV series.
The autumn’s theatre performances at Kannusali will be opened by a monologue play based on Pekka Heikkinen’s life, Näillä mennään. This comic and encouraging play is about a paralysed actor and perseverance. The performance features live music by Pekka Faarao Pirttikangas. Entertainment for the darkening autumn evenings will be provided by Anitta Iso A Ahonen, Mentalist Jose Ahonen, comedian couple Riku Suokas and Johanna Tohni as well as Minna Koskela and Eeva Vekki.
Young people can enjoy an all-ages concert by the original artist Melo. The highly anticipated Kibecon will bring together anime, manga, K-pop and game enthusiasts. The children’s weekend will feature music by Moottörin Jyrinää and crafts in a Mauri Kunnas workshop. The popular Arnie Alligator will be performing in both Finnish and Swedish.
The senior-friendly afternoon films will offer refreshing, high-quality cultural experiences.
