Animal-assisted activities discussed at SuomiAreena – watch the recording
Animal-assisted activities are becoming more and more common, and the topic was also discussed at this year’s SuomiAreena event. One of the participants in a panel discussion on nature-based solutions in the health and social services sector was Ritva Mickelsson, the Principal of Kaitaan koulu. The discussion was held on 27 June 2023 and can be watched on Katsomo.
The discussion focused on the solutions provided through nature-based Green Care methods in wellbeing services counties and municipalities. Principal Ritva Mickelsson knows how ponies can help pupils learn. Kaitaan koulu has used horse-assisted learning for a long time.
Animal-assisted activities were also discussed earlier this year at a principals’ seminar where pedagogical interventions and inclusive practices to support wellbeing and learning were talked about by Ritva Mickelsson and Birgit Paju, the Principal of Lintuvaaran koulu. They provided some examples of practices in Espoo, such as socio-pedagogical dog and horse activities. Read more
