Spring is here – do you know the boundaries of your plot?

Espoo has numerous parks, forests and other public spaces that all residents can use as recreational areas. We at the Public Works Department have noticed that, in recent years, the city’s public spaces have often been used for personal purposes. From now on, we will intervene more actively in situations where property owners use public spaces without permission.
Lawns and plants must stay within your plot
Lawn areas, plants and structures must stay within the boundaries of your plot. You may not store items outside your plot. For example, your fences, trampolines, piles of wood, playhouses and trailers must be kept on your plot.
Please make sure that your items stay within your plot and that public spaces are available for everyone to use.
Keep the street area clean
Please also remember that, as a property owner, you are responsible for the cleaning of the street area next to your property. On a residential street, the property owner or holder is responsible for the green area bordering the plot, up to a distance of three metres from the plot boundary. The city’s green area maintenance team takes care of any areas beyond three metres as well as green strips, trees and bushes located next to city-owned park and forest areas.
We ask residents to make sure that their neighbourhoods are clean and safe.
Be careful with invasive species
Harmful invasive species spread easily through garden waste. Do not leave sticks, grass or leaves in parks or forests. You should compost them within your plot or take them to a waste collection station.
Use the map service
Use the Espoo map service to check the boundaries of your plot. Do this:
- Go to Espoo Map Service(external link, opens in a new window)
- Select the aerial photograph as your map view.
- Then select the information you wish to see on the map: Planning > Confirmed town plans, coloured.
It is enjoyable to spend time in a clean and safe environment. Let’s keep our neighbourhoods nice and clean. Thank you for your cooperation.
