Changes in Espoo’s oral health care services in autumn 2022
Children’s and young people’s check-ups
We send check-up invitation letters to children aged 1, 3 and 5 and to those in grades 1, 5 and 8. We also send a letter to every 17-year-old Espoo resident to request them to book an appointment for an oral health examination. Periodic oral health check-ups are statutory and provided for the entire age group.
Based on the check-ups, children and young people get an individual care plan. The plan includes a schedule for their upcoming appointments with dental hygienists and dentists, home care instructions, preventive and remedial care, monitoring of the development of their occlusion (bite), and possible X-ray examinations. From the autumn of 2022 onwards, we will also send children and young people an invitation to check-ups based on their individual care plans. We will do this to secure the availability of statutory services.
In November (weeks 44–48), we will focus on conducting children’s and young people’s oral health check-ups that were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. During these weeks, Espoo’s dental clinics will have fewer non-urgent check-up and dental hygienist’s appointments available to adults.
In the future, the Matinkatu dental clinic will focus on providing and developing dental care services for children and young people. Health promotion activities will be another focus area. Health promotion activities encourage the entire family to take care of their oral health through proper self-care, which begins in childhood. It is important for all of us to take care of our oral health as part of our daily routines.
Unit for specialised oral care in Tapiola
After the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County starts operating on 1 January 2023, the unit for specialised oral care will be located at the Tapiola dental clinic. Espoo’s specialised oral health care services are already mainly provided at the Tapiola dental clinic.
Service voucher and outsourced services
In some situations, we can offer our adult clients a service voucher for comprehensive dental care or dental hygienists’ appointments as outsourced services.
