Together against racism

Espoo’s City Council will discuss the anti-racism commitment at its next meeting.

Unfortunately, racism still exists in people’s words and actions in different areas of society. As long as there is racism, it is important that we talk about it and emphasise that everyone must be treated appropriately and equally.

In accordance with the Espoo Story, everyone living in Espoo is an Espoo resident and we have zero tolerance for racism. In September 2021, the City of Espoo joined the “I Am Antiracist” campaign launched by the Ministry of Justice and the Non-Discrimination Ombudsman. The campaign encourages people to intervene in racist situations and work actively against racism.

We at Espoo’s Equality Committee had the task of producing an anti-racism commitment for the City Council. The aim of the commitment is to increase council members’ understanding and awareness of racism and to ensure that we understand our role in promoting equality.

Change requires active anti-racist acts and efforts from all of us. We hope that all members of the City Council sign the commitment and take part in building a more equal Espoo.
