Suomen Yrittäjät Municipal Barometer is open: municipalities’ enterprise-friendliness compared

SY customarily measures the success of municipalities’ enterprise policy every other year. Now, the results will be reported in a new way, with enhanced comparability. In future, anyone can easily compare the results for a specific municipality regarding a specific question. This means users can rank the most successful municipalities on a single issue, such as public procurement questions.

In 2020, as many as 10,400 business owners nationwide answered the questionnaire. The municipalities that scored best that year in their size categories were Seinäjoki, Kärsämäki and Lieto.

It is important that all SY members share their views to ensure the results genuinely reflect business owners’ views. The survey is open from 1 February to 31 March 2022. You can answer it in Finnish, Swedish or English. Click this link(external link, opens in a new window).

“We need fact-based information so Suomen Yrittäjät can advocate at local, regional and national levels to ensure the municipalities provide the best possible conditions for doing business,” says Tanja Matikainen, Municipal and Business Affairs Manager at Suomen Yrittäjät.

The results of the survey are an important tool for the development of cooperation between business owners and municipalities and the achievement of tangible reforms.

• Business owners can give feedback and evaluate their municipalities’ actions: what works and what should be improved?
• Municipalities receive important feedback from business owners about their operations, including on the significance of public procurements for business owners.
• The local societies of SY learn what issues they should advocate on their members’ behalf in the municipalities.
• The municipalities and their enterprise agencies receive valuable feedback from business owners about the enterprise services they offer: do enterprise services improve business owners’ daily lives and are they available at a low threshold? Do public procurements take small and medium-sized enterprises into account?

The results of the survey will be announced at the Municipal Leadership Seminar(external link, opens in a new window) on Wednesday 18 May 2022.

The municipalities and the local societies of Suomen Yrittäjät will also receive the results directly. The survey is conducted by Iro Research Oy and emailed directly to members who have given their consent to emails about surveys.
