The new Children’s Weekend event will take place 2–3 October 2021 around Espoo. It is an adventure for children of all ages in various cultural venues including Children’s Cultural Centre Aurora, Kannusali, Sello Hall, Espoo Cultural Centre, Exhibition Centre Weegee as well as the online cultural centre Urban Espoo.

This is the first time Espoo’s Event and Cultural Services is organising the Children’s Weekend, and Executive Producer Johanna Kallioaho could not be more excited about it.

“It has been exciting to work in cooperation with all the cultural venues in Espoo to organise the Children’s Weekend. We hope that the residents of Espoo will find their own favourites from the weekend’s live shows or enjoy watching premieres online through Urban Espoo.”

So why not just jump into the world of strange creatures, nocturnal sounds and twilight creepers!

Night Sounds Exhibition and Twilight Creepers Art Workshop

Visual artists Anu Pensola and Rasaliina Seppälä have compiled the Yön äänet – Night Sounds Exhibition of children’s artworks at Children’s Cultural Centre Aurora's Kivijalka Gallery in Järvenperä. In the works, the little artists have pondered on the sounds heard at night and where they actually come from.

You can also join the Twilight Creepers Art Workshop or the Sunny Treasure Party Art Workshop, watch a play by TEHDAS Theatre & Puppet Theatre Hot Duckling or listen to the Tapiola Sinfonietta’s Pöllö Quartet at Aurora.

A German-language film for families

The newly renovated Kannusali in Espoon keskus will show the German-language film Zu weit weg, aber freunde für immer during the Children’s Weekend. Visitors can also attend a crafts workshop.

Do you know the person who can talk from the stomach?

Sari Aalto, Finland’s most popular ventriloquist and a TikTok star, will put on a captivating and hilarious show at Sello Hall in Leppävaara.

Award-winning music, exhilarating facts in verse and wonderful glimpses into the amazing life of little creatures and bugs will be offered at the Otus Opus Concert at Sello Hall (in the picture). Before and after the concert, you can also transform yourself into a small creature in the Otus Workshop by crafting your very own creature mask.

In addition, Red Nose Company will perform a musical comedy Frankenstein at Sello Hall where you can enjoy the company of a mad scientist and a wide variety of monsters!

Taikametsä Magical Forest concert charms the whole family

It starts raining in the Magical Forest. Unlike before, this rain does not seem to stop. The water level rises, and the inhabitants of the forest seek shelter in trees, climbing higher and higher. But then, with the support of the audience and the creatures of the Magical Forest, we can make a safe dive into the water and meet new friends.

The Taikametsä Magical Forest concert will charm the whole family with excitement, astonishment and laughter at Espoo Cultural Centre. The show invites you to let your imagination run wild.

Visit the exiting Futuro House at Exhibition Centre Weegee

The Futuro is a plastic house designed by architect Matti Suuronen. Elliptical in shape, the house captures the experimental forms, new materials and optimistic ideas of the space-age architecture and design of the late 1960s.

Enjoy workshops and concerts online without leaving home!

The Art Workshop Mielimaisema – Mindscape at online cultural centre Urban Espoo is a small feel-good moment captured in a jar. In the Paint and Play Art Workshop, curious toddlers get to make art at their own pace. A musical gig Supper club: Samae Koskinen includes songs familiar from Samae’s gigs. The workshops and concert were filmed at Children’s Cultural Centre Aurora.

Naattiorkesteri sings, rhymes, exaggerates and even flies into space at Urban Espoo! The concert was filmed at Espoo Cultural Centre.
