This year, Espoon keskus will once again be lit up in the darkness with the magical light installation "Waves of Magic" in Kirkkopuisto. Located near the Cathedral Church, by the Espoo River Bridge, the work will be open to the public from 21 December 2023 to 6 January 2024. Over 25 metres in diameter, the work is at its best during the hours of darkness.

The work is made possible by the The Events Together in Espoo development programme and City Events Espoo and will be realised by Flowers of Life, a Finnish art group specialising in UV light art, whose three-dimensional visual elements have delighted audiences at several audiovisual events. Founded in 2005, the group has visited 24 countries and made numerous art installations around Finland.

The grand opening will be held on Thursday 21.12. starting at 3 pm, together with the Espoo Lutheran Church. The park can be visited at any time of the day while the installation is in place, from 21 December 2023 to 6 January 2024, although the piece is intended to be experienced in the dark, either in the mornings or evenings, when it can best be seen. As the artwork can be viewed in the mornings, child groups from daycare centres and schools, for example, will be able to visit it.

Flowers of Life's chief designer Veikko Lappalainen describes Waves of Magic thus: "Waves of magic is a huge glowing installation with a Center Star radiating through the area and pillars of light surrounding it. It plays in the wind and changes slowly to show its many sides... It is an energetic installation. It’s here to inspire us and uplift our spirits."
