Kauklahti
Get to know Kauklahti
Located along the coastal railway line, the Greater Kauklahti area includes the districts of Espoonkartano, Kauklahti, Kurttila and Vanttila. Kauklahti is bordered by the sea, and it is one of the earliest local centres in Espoo.
Now home to some 10,000 people, Kauklahti is a growing and pleasant district that attracts new residents. New homes will be built near the railway station.
Everyday life in Kauklahti is convenient and active, with the sports park and other outdoor recreation facilities offering a wide range of activities all year round. Shops and cafés can be found along the village street, and services continue to develop as the area grows.
As Kauklahti lies in the delta of the Espoonjoki and Mankinjoki rivers, the natural environment there is magnificent and diverse. The Espoonlahti nature reserve also offers great opportunities for bird-watching.
Future plans for Kauklahti
Kauklahti is one of Espoo’s local centres and mostly a low-rise residential area. The 2006 Housing Fair area built right next to the old village environment is characterised by a compact, low-rise, village-like urban structure. The construction projects planned for the area near the station will improve access to public transport and transform a large part of the old industrial site into apartment building blocks.
According to current plans, the Lasihytti area near the railway station could be home to some 4,000 residents in the future.
The northern parts of Kauklahti will remain agricultural and forestry areas. New construction is rooted in the area’s village traditions. The scale and structure of the old villages also guide future planning.
