Bathing water sampling results in Espoo and Kauniainen

The quality of lake water is good when the levels are below 1,000 cfu/100 ml for E. coli and below 400 cfu/100 ml for enterococci.

The quality of sea water is good when the levels are below 500 cfu/100 ml for E. coli and below 200 cfu/100 ml for enterococci.

The amount of blue-green algae is indicated on a scale 0/1/2/3:

• 0 = No blue-green algae found (No blue-green algae is visible on the surface of the water or at the water’s edge. Water transparency is normal.)
• 1 = Blue-green algae found (Blue-green algae is visible if you take water in a transparent container. There are greenish algae flakes in the water. There may be narrow streaks of algae on the beach. Algae reduces water transparency.)
• 2 = High amount of blue-green algae (The water clearly contains blue-green algae, there are small masses of algae on the surface of the water, or algae has built up on the beach. Algae reduces water transparency.)
• 3 = Very high amount of blue-green algae (There are large masses of blue-green algae on the surface of the water or thick piles built up on the beach.)

If there is a high or very high amount of blue-green algae in the water, a warning is posted on a notice board at the beach.
