My Espoo on the Map theses

In 2020 and 2024, Espoo conducted an extensive My Espoo on the Map resident survey in cooperation with Aalto University. Several Master’s theses and other theses have been completed on the basis of these results.

The City Planning Department has wanted to collect opinions from residents on how they feel about their everyday environment, on what is important in the everyday environment and on how people operate and move around there. At the same time, the city wanted to ask its residents how the city should be developed to make it an even better place to live and call home.

In 2020 and 2024, Espoo residents responded enthusiastically to the My Espoo on the Map surveys. On both occasions, more than 5,000 Espoo residents marked more than 50,000 places important to them or development ideas on the map. The surveys were carried out by Espoo City Planning Department in cooperation with the Department of Built Environment at Aalto University. The surveys were carried out as an open survey for everyone. One third of the respondents were children and young people. They replied to the survey customised for them as part of their school day.
