Group Visits and Independent Use

How has learning and schooling taken place in Espoo at different times? During this guided walk, we follow the Espoo River from the church to Lagstad and talk about how people in Espoo used to get to school in the past. Dress according to the weather!

Can you jump rope or twist? Do you know how to play “tar pot” or “colours”? Have you ever built a track for “neppis” cars? Together we play both new and traditional outdoor games familiar from the schoolyard, in the Lagstad yard. The games vary depending on group size and season. Dress according to the weather!

How did people study and write before smartboards and computers? Can you write your own name in cursive? In this workshop, we explore handwriting styles from different eras and try writing on a slate board and with an ink pen on paper. At the end, we create a shared class photo on the chalkboard.

Reading is always worthwhile, and everyone needs a bookmark! In this workshop, participants design and create their own bookmark using waffle embroidery.

Together we look at old photographs from schools in Espoo and discuss the memories and thoughts they evoke about each person’s own school journey. At the end, participants may explore the School Museum’s exhibition independently.

You can book the Lagstad School Museum for your group’s independent visit. The facilities are available to operators who support learning and multiliteracy. Independent use is free of charge.

The School Museum can be reserved for groups Tue–Fri from 9 am to 3 pm. You may also combine your independent visit with a service led by one of KAMU’s guides, or explore the surroundings of Lagstad and the school history in Espoo with the mobile guide.

Groups have access to presentation equipment, a refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, kettle, and coffee tableware for 35 people.

Looking for a meeting place for your association or group? The facilities of the Lagstad School Museum can be used in the evenings and on weekends for regular gatherings that support peer learning, wellbeing or multiliteracy. Use of the facilities is free of charge.

Would your group like to tend its own garden box?

Behind the Lagstad School Museum there is a small school garden. A group – such as an association, a group of friends or a class – can take care for one planting box for one growing season at a time. Applications for summer 2026 open in March.

The School Museum tells the story of how people in Espoo have learned throughout the years. Is your story still missing?

What have you learned, where, and from whom? Share your own story as part of the Lagstad School Museum. The stories will be recorded on video, and the finished videos will be displayed in the museum.

Would you like to create your own small exhibition in the School Museum? What would you like to share with others about a topic related to learning that is important to you?

The workshop series includes three visits to the School Museum, during which you plan and create your own small pop‑up exhibition in the museum’s display cabinet. The exhibition can be assembled either from your own items or from objects in the School Museum’s collections. It will be on display in the School Museum for about three months.
