Espoo is the second largest city in Finland and is located next to the capital city of Helsinki. The transport connections from the airport and the centre of Helsinki to Espoo are excellent.

Construction in Espoo

  • Approx. 47,000 residential units will be completed by 2031.
  • Approx. 350,000 m² of new residential floor space is approved annually.
  • The master planning process is underway. The plan will provide guidelines for land use, transport and growth until 2060.
  • Espoo aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2030. This is reflected in energy-efficient construction solutions, for example.

Innovative Espoo

Espoo made it to the top six in the European Commission’s iCapital competition (European Capital of Innovation Awards) in 2019 and 2020. In 2022, Espoo took second place.

Espoo produces the sixth-highest number of patent applications among European cities (over 1,200 in 2021).

Espoo is one of the hundred cities participating in the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030.

Business in Espoo

In 2022, there were approx. 130,000 jobs, of which 113,000 were in the private sector. One third of them were knowledge-intensive jobs.
