Kitka Kollektiivi
Dark Matter performance installation
Dark Matter is Kitka Kollektiivi’s latest dance work created for public spaces. The work is an invitation to pause and to calm down the pace. An increasingly relentless tempo characterises our time, particularly in many urban spaces. People rush by absent-mindedly and turn away from one another. With this work, Kitka Kollektiivi aims to bring a sense of presence and the possibility of connection to these spaces. The dancers move with sensitivity, placing themselves in vulnerable positions, supporting one another and surrendering to that support. It’s a reminder that none of us can manage alone, and that mutual dependence is a core part of humanity.
Dark Matter is sensitive and intimate in nature, and it engages in a dialogue with the surrounding space and those who inhabit and shape it. Through its installation format, the work brings to the space a new rhythm, of unhurriedness and stillness, that can leave a powerful impression, even on those who view it only briefly.
Kitka Kollektiivi is a contemporary dance collective based in Helsinki and comprises of dance artists Katriina Kantola, Iiris Raipala and Elina Valtonen. Kollektiivi specialises in accessibility and strives to reach new audiences through its work.
