Kitka Collective Performance Installation: Dark Matter
Dark Matter is the latest dance work by Kitka Collective, created for public spaces. The piece invites audiences to pause and slow down. In our time, and especially in many urban environments, life is marked by a tense and ever-accelerating pace. People hurry along absent-mindedly and turn away from one another.
With this work, Kitka Collective seeks to bring presence and the possibility of human connection into these spaces. The highly attuned dancers place themselves in vulnerable situations, supporting one another while also surrendering to being supported. They remind us that no one can survive alone and that mutual dependence lies at the heart of our humanity.
Dark Matter is delicate and intimate in nature, engaging in a dialogue with the surrounding space and the people within it. Through its installation-like form, the work creates a new rhythm in the environment, one of slowness and stillness. This can leave a powerful impression even on those who pause only briefly to experience the piece.
Kitka Collective is a contemporary dance group based in Helsinki, consisting of dance artists Katriina Kantola, Iiris Raipala and Elina Valtonen. The collective specializes in promoting accessibility in its artistic work and is committed to reaching new audiences.
