Yksin vai yhdessä – Ensam eller tillsammans
Monday, Dec. 7, at 6:00 p.m., Salonki, Lippulaiva Library
Yksin vai yhdessä – Ensam eller tillsammans is a multidisciplinary work by dance artist Katriina Kantola and violinist Teija Kivinen. The piece combines contemporary dance, dance improvisation, contemporary violin music, traditional violin music, and Finland-Swedish poetry.
The work Yksin vai yhdessä – Ensam eller tillsammans tells the story of breaking free from loneliness toward interaction and connection with others. It encourages reflection on what it is like to be alone and isolated from others. The work also explores whether it is possible to feel connected to others even when physically distant from them. It encourages reaching out to others rather than withdrawing into oneself.
The program features, among other pieces, composer Maija Hynninen’s composition *Island* for solo violin. Hynninen composed the piece during the COVID-19 lockdown in Paris in 2021, and she describes it as follows: “The violin moves through various textures and tones, using them to paint a gentle picture of loneliness.”
The piece is accessible to everyone, regardless of language background.
