Jodo beginner's course

Leppävaara Budō Club is a 20-year-old Japanese sword arts club based in Espoo, an accredited Star Club and a member of the Finnish Kendo Federation.

Jōdō, the Way of the Staff, focuses on the use of a staff against a swordsman. The basics of jōdō consist of 12 solo exercises (Kihon Tandoku) and 12 paired exercises (Kihon Sotai). Once the fundamental techniques are mastered, we move on to practicing the 12 kata (prearranged forms) of the All Japan Kendo Federation (Zen Nihon Kendo Renmei). The weapons used are a wooden staff (jō) and a wooden sword (bokken).

Practicing jōdō does not require any special equipment for beginners; normal training clothes are sufficient. Other equipment can be borrowed from the club during the course.

The recommended minimum age for our courses is 15 years, but contact us if you would like to discuss exceptions for younger participants.

There is no maximum age limit!

The basic course will be held on Thursdays starting September 3rd, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, at Lintuvaara School.

NOTE: With the same course fee and license, you may participate in the basic courses of all disciplines if you wish!
