The concert by the Flagellate Collective will explore the inhabitants of water samples from the lake and ocean enlarged hundreds of times via a microscope and projector. During the concert, musicians Devina Boughton and Veera Katila, and researcher/marine biologist Sonja Repetti will respond to - and perhaps even influence - the movement of algae and other plankton with traditional Finnish and Karelian shepherds’ wind instruments as well as horns made from kelp seaweed. The performance includes a short introduction to algae and the instruments. A portion of the performers’ earnings will go to environmental protection initiatives to support the harmonious coexistence of humans and algae.

You can also participate in collecting the algae for observation at the concert. Sonja Repetti will collect algae for the concert at Lake Pentala on the same day at 11am. More information about the collecting here: https://www.espoo.fi/en/events/espooevents:agpllgikoe
