It's the sound of Scotland! At this concert, modern instruments and the latest in traditional music will be heard alongside traditional bagpipes and harps. The evening will feature two bands and artists whose common denominators are influences drawn from the west coast of Scotland and taking Celtic music traditions to modern times with rock-hard musical skill and vision.
Rachel Hair and Ron Jappy’s duo combine two string instruments, or the traditional Scottish harp (clarsach) and an acoustic guitar. Rachel’s and Ron’s strong knowledge of tradition can be heard in such as catchy reels and jigs, but the duo has developed their sound through powerful interpretations of songs old and new and added new dimensions to the tradition. Daimh is a group of five musicians playing traditional bagpipes and violins whose music is nevertheless also fresh and contemporary. The vocalist Ellen MacDonald is one of the leading Scottish folk singers. The Gaelic word daimh means togetherness – and this concept has successfully supported the group for more than 20 years.
