The book sculptures on display in this exhibition were created by participants as part of the project “Even Old Things Are Beautiful” organized by the Espoo-based association InterLab ry. The works were made from books that were at risk of being discarded. Through art, they have been given a new lease on life.
The exhibition “Life Between the Pages” highlights, in particular, the expressive forms of book sculptures and collages. In these works, the book serves as both a carrier of text and a material, a memory, and a starting point for a new story.
The project aims to promote recycling, ecological thinking, and sustainable creativity, as well as to reinforce the significance of memories and objects as part of our shared cultural heritage. The works created from old books serve as a reminder that even materials intended for disposal hold value, stories, and beauty.
InterLab is an Espoo-based association founded in 2017 that promotes artistic and innovative activities. The association’s goal is to create artistic projects focused on creative activities and contemporary art. Many of the association’s projects aim to creatively combine collage, theater, and virtual reality. The team includes a wide range of professionals from various artistic fields, including theater, photography, film, painting, music, and dance.
The project “Even Old Things Are Beautiful” is supported by the City of Espoo / CultureEspoo.
The exhibition is open during library hours. Welcome!
