Remembering the forest is a photo exhibit that contextualises deforestation on the personal, emotional level. It describes the significance of forests through personal but approachable stories.

Anyone that spends time in nature can’t help but notice the results of forestry: our natural forests are almost completely gone. Only six per cent of the forests in Southern Finland have been protected. Remembering the woods exposes the worrying current state of our forests and introduces personal experiences of deforestation through photographs and stories.

The photo exhibition features stories from all around Finland: From Ylläs in the north to Loviisa in the south, and from Kitee near the eastern border to Kankaanpää near the west coast. The exhibition gives a face and voice to Finland’s deforestation. The approach is respectful and truthful in its preservation of diverse nature.

The photograph exhibition is a production of photo and videographers Krista Ylinen and Joonas Linkola. This pair of friends has years of combined experience in professional photography, having toured Finland both together and on their own. Both have felt the pain of losing their childhood forests. Krista and Joonas have also shared their own stories for the exhibition.

Nature House Villa Elfvik is open Mon–Fri 9:00–16:00 and Sun 10:00–16:00. Closed for Midsummer 19–20 June 2026. Café Elfvik is open on Sundays during the opening hours of the nature house. Free admission.
