Kotiteollisuus from Lappeenranta is one of the most respected bands in Finnish heavy rock. Between 1993 and 1997, the band was known as Hullu ukko ja Kotiteollisuus. In 1997, the band changed its name to the current one. Kotiteollisuus won the Emma Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Album in 2004 with their album Helvetistä itään, which also became the band’s breakthrough release. Among their biggest hits are Rakastaa/ei rakasta, Helvetistä itään, and Minä olen.
The band’s frontman, Jouni Hynynen, serves not only as the vocalist, guitarist, and lyricist, but also as a composer and arranger. Jouni Hynynen has also published numerous literary works.
Throughout their career, Kotiteollisuus has toured extensively, performing at festivals and on concert tours. Jouni Hynynen sums it up:
“What’s best about touring is the genuine connection with the fans. Live shows give us an enormous amount of energy, even though at our energy level a lot of it also disappears as sweat and farts into the winds of heaven. At least you know you’ve done something when we collapse backstage after a gig, panting and squeezing sweat out of our soaking wet shirts. But the connection with the audience — that’s the most important and rewarding part.”
Kotiteollisuus consists of:
Jouni Hynynen – vocals and guitar
Jari Sinkkonen – drums and backing vocals
Janne Hongisto – bass guitar and backing vocals
Miitri Aaltonen – guitar and backing vocals
