Summer Art Workshops

At Summer Art Workshops you get to create art and try out a variety of techniques! The workshops awaken creativity through playfulness, daydreaming and inspiration from nature. All workshops are designed and led by Aino Jäälinoja.

The workshops take place outdoors and operate on a non‑stop basis together with an accompanying adult. Participation is free of charge.

Workshops run from 10:00 to 13:00.

Tue 2 June – Playing With Materials: Felted Animals

Soft wool transforms into tiny animals and insects. Using a felting needle, you can create three‑dimensional figures — perhaps a snail, a mouse, a bird, a ladybug, or even a completely new species.

Wed 3 June – Playing With Materials: Straw Painting

In this workshop, colors are blown into motion and allowed to flow across the paper. Can you spot something recognisable in the colorful puddles? We finish the artwork with markers and colored pencils.

Thu 4 June – Playing With Materials: Collage Art

Cut and glue! In this art workshop you get to create your own dream artwork by combining magazine clippings, glitter, different kinds of paper and a variety of recycled materials.

Tue 9 June – Inspired by Nature: Natural Materials as Brushes

Can you paint with a flower? And what kind of mark does a blade of grass make? Together we explore how nature’s own shapes and surfaces leave traces on paper.

Wed 10 June – Inspired by Nature: Color From Plants and Flowers

We hammer color out of flowers onto paper and turn the results into beautiful artworks.

Thu 11 June – Inspired by Nature: Shadow Drawing

We explore the surroundings and discover what kinds of plants and flowers grow in Aurora’s yard. Together we experiment with the shadows that plants cast on paper on a sunny day. We create artworks inspired by these shadows through drawing and painting.

Tue 16 June – Summer Art: Experimental Printmaking

Unexpected tools leave surprising marks on paper! Let your creativity run free by printing patterns with a potato or trying monotype techniques using an orange peel.

Wed 17 June – Summer Art: Experimental Painting

Paint, sprinkle and observe. In this workshop we paint with watercolours and explore how materials like salt and sugar affect the spreading of colour and the texture of the surface.

Thu 18 June – Summer Art: Midsummer Cards

We design and create summery cards inspired by the spirit of Midsummer. Wax crayons are used to make colourful surfaces, which are then cut and arranged into beautiful artworks.

Tue 23 June – Dreams and Stories: A Story‑Filled Art Moment

Stories come to life as images. Together we take inspiration from fairy tales and create our own imaginary landscapes using a variety of materials.

Wed 24 June – Dreams and Stories: The Garden of Dreams

What would the garden of your dreams look like? In this art workshop, everyone gets to craft a miniature model of their own dream garden.

Thu 25 June – Dreams and Stories: Paper Dolls

Design your own paper doll! Create a superhero, a fairy‑tale character, or even a miniature version of yourself. Finish your character with handmade outfits and let the play begin.
