Esboviken Folk 60

On Espoo Day, August 29, the festival history of 60 years ago comes alive in Espoonlahti as Espoonlahti Folk 60 takes place at the Pakkasmäki outdoor stage. The event is inspired by the Helsinki Folk Festival of 1966, considered the first popular music festival in Finland. Espoonlahti Folk 60 is being held in almost the same area as its predecessor. The concert highlights the history of the 1966 festival and celebrates its 60th anniversary. 

Programme 

4:30 pm – Kaikki-pelaa 

An accordion orchestra founded by Elina Leskelä and Eero Nissinen at the Espoo Music Institute. The group includes children and young people, from primary school age to this spring’s graduates who have won prizes in the Minä soitan harmonikkaa competition. 

5:30 pm – The Sixties Blondies & Buddies 

The girl group of Back to the Sixties features singers Kati Borg-Penttilä, Eeva-Leena Pokela and Irma Tapio, all of whom have been familiar voices on the Finnish music scene since the 1960s. 

7:00 pm – Antti Utriainen Trio feat. Eero Koivistoinen 

For the closing concert of Espoonlahti Folk 60, Antti Utriainen Trio is joined by Finnish jazz legend Eero Koivistoinen. Their joint performance builds a bridge between the festival history of 60 years ago and jazz today. Expect strong musical interaction, the joy of improvisation and music that lives in the moment – just as it did at its best at festivals in the 1960s.
