Special exhibition Time Travel Odyssey 1950 at the Leikki - Museum of Play invites you to step aboard a time traveller’s ship and set off on a journey to explore the childhoods of different eras.

A time traveller from the future has visited the 1950s to find out what everyday life was like for children. The traveller has gathered research samples: toys, objects, photographs and memories of children’s lives.

Now the time machine has returned from the past and landed at Museum Leikki. The collected material reveals a time when children were numerous, when they took part in daily chores, attended strict schools, and played with handmade toys—often outdoors. Many everyday practices of the era raise questions for the traveller.

In this special exhibition, the time traveller invites visitors to join the research. Inside the ship, you can get to know 1950s objects as well as photographs, sound recordings and audiovisual materials from the era. The exhibition also offers a chance to dive into the world of time travel: you can try operating and maintaining a time machine, design research tools and imagine toys of the future. Visitors are also invited to play in a 1950s living room and a miniature world inspired by the decade.
