Elina Vähälä, violin

Paavali Jumppanen, piano

One of Finland’s most radiant chamber music duos is formed by violinist Elina Vähälä and pianist Paavali Jumppanen. Internationally acclaimed artists, they bring charisma, technical virtuosity and deep musical expression to the stage.

The evening opens with Clara Schumann’s Romance No. 1, a sensitive and lyrical work that beautifully reveals the composer’s artistry. Robert Schumann’s Violin Sonata No. 2 in D minor, one of the most significant chamber works of his late period and also known as the “Grand Sonata”, demands great technical mastery and the ability to shape its powerful emotional arcs.

Modern Finnish musical language is represented by Jaakko Kuusisto’s Valo, shimmering with colourful harmonies and rhythmic vitality. The concert concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 10 in G major, whose clarity of form, luminous lines and virtuosic energy bring the evening to a brilliant close.
