Espoo Day JuuriJuhla Club: Maria Kalaniemi & Jouko Kyhälä:

Espoo-based folk music and timeless atmospheres in the embrace of the archipelago at Pentala Archipelago Museum on Espoo Day. The concert is a requested repeat from last summer! It will be held in the atmospheric Fisherman’s Cottage.

Maria Kalaniemi, an accordion artist from Espoo, is an internationally acclaimed top-level musician and a talented, distinctive composer. She has developed a highly personal style drawing from numerous musical traditions. Her lyrically sensitive and intense playing has gained a devoted audience around the world. The archipelago is close to her heart. In 2024, she celebrated her 60th anniversary.

Jouko Kyhälä, a harmonica player and Doctor of Music from Kirkkonummi, is among the leading professional folk musicians in Finland. He has led the world-renowned Sväng harmonica quartet for over 20 years, and has also had an extensive career as a solo performer and as a composer for theatre, film music, and contemporary dance. Kyhälä has played in over 20 ensembles and appeared on dozens of recordings across all genres. His musical roots, however, lie in folk music. His guiding principles are a connection to nature and a love of life.

This Espoo Day concert is produced in collaboration by JuuriJuhla-RotFest and Pentala Archipelago Museum.
