DIRE STRAITS?

Dire Straits, led by Mark Knopfler, was founded in London in the late 1970s. Within just a few years, it grew into a world-class stadium band and one of the biggest acts of the 1980s. The group had a distinctive, instantly recognizable sound—thanks in large part to Knopfler’s unique style. The band disbanded in the mid‑1990s, after which Knopfler moved in new musical directions, drawing influences from country, folk, and blues. He has continued his successful solo career and recording work to this day.
