The performance draws on both Finnish and American folk music, and the story is told in both Finnish and 'Finglish', spiced with folk, blues and even Jamaican touches.

Before the Second World War, a third of a million immigrants left Finland for North America. Bass guitarist and singer Aija Puurtinen has composed new immigrant songs that reflect the different dimensions and periods of migration to Perttu Hemming’s Finglish texts. They look at the past with nostalgia and amusement, pausing at the stories.

The first performer of the evening will be Päivi Hirvonen, a singer, violinist and bowed lyre player with two Emma nominations who is pursuing an international career. Hirvonen’s first two solo albums received international praise, and her second one titled KALLIO ranked 10th on the World Music Charts Europe and 15th on the Transglobal World Music Chart when it came out. Both albums received Etno-Emma nominations in Finland.

Hirvonen's third album, MAA PALAA, was published in April 2025 and was very well received internationally by both critics and the public.

Duration 2 h, incl. intermission
